The best night EVER!

I’m just so happy, I have to post about my Lost Vale run. At first, it looked like we might have had to call it. Dralel kept bugging out on us, randomly resetting, and picking up parasites that were out of range below the map. We eventually dropped her and a guildie scored some boots for his Blackgaurd.

The other wing was much more favorable to us Chosens, The off tank scored The Devouring Wall, and I scored my Darkpromise Shoulderguards and Darkpromise Gauntlets. But the real treat for me came when we dropped the chieftain. The Deathaxe of the Faithless dropped. The greatest Dread Chosen weapon so far found. Now, I just can’t wait to run to a lake and separate a Bright Wizard from his head!

Sadly, we ran out of time before being able to finish N’Kari, RL time limits cut us short. Next time, she won’t fair so lucky, and her secrets shall be mine!

WOT, Choppa is on PTS!

All right, all you girls and gits, the Choppa is officially in a playable format once more. Log into the PTS and give it a try. It has changed quite a bit from beta, but still has a familiar feel to it. I’m so excited for the Choppa to go live, I’ve been collecting “Orc, Goblin” items that the class may find useful.

So, I logged on and created my choppa yesterday. Wow….. Absolutely amazing. This class is awesomeness incarnate. It truly is DPS all the way through. It has very little along the lines of utility, the only thing coming close it, Path of the Wrecka is made for smashing though tank walls. This will also be the class that will have the 1,000 rez’s title before 40.

RAGE! Interesting mechanic, so you start off like a BlackOrc (survivability/damage), but quickly move up Marauder status. Then finally you start to glow red and have that damage/survivability of a WitchElf. At the point your ‘zerk you have no survivability. I was getting hit for over 300 damage by slayers fully enraged (My weakness + Their rage damage) in t1 lower than rank 5. When Mythic said you’ll be rez’n these guys a lot, they were not kidding.

Now, I did view over the trees and abilities. Though the Choppa has some nerf bait moral abilities, they really have no moral builders. But in the end, I foresee a few abilities that are going to be whined about and nerfed (Some maybe rightfully so). One thing I did notice, they have TWO tactics that raises Strength, and one of them will also raise Weapon Skill (another very important skill for MDPS).

Though, we won’t get a good review of these guys for some time, as the test server spends a lot of time crashing, making it nearly impossible to get one into T2. We won’t see the impact they or the Slayer have in the game until some time after release, and the 40’s start trickling in.

Until then,
Oi, Mythic, fetch me CHOPPA!

The fall of the Shinning Way

So, today, we had the very first fortress take on the Phoenix Throne server. Whether legit or not Destro took the Shinning Way. Many sieges, I sat and seen the fort lord reset to the bottom floor, and many times I’ve seen order assault him and loose. The same thing happened to Destro, but first, the whole story.

I joined up with the group for main tanking the lord. We had outstanding leadership. Our assault was strong and hard. We pushed through the doors and pushed up to the lord in minutes. Me and three others were swapping the lord amongst ourselves tanking it. Although I’m guessing it updated slow for me, I seen it at 60%, others said we had it at 50% before some random reset. We quickly taunted it back, and started in again. The second attempt we got it to 60% before it randomly reset again. We taunted again. With each reset and pull, it would fire off an AoE that would thin our numbers even more than the last.

I died at about 90%, but the other tanks and DPS managed to get it to below 80% before order showed up and finished us off. Destro regrouped and pushed in two groups. I was not there yet, but I picked up what happened from guildies in that push on vent. The first group was pushing up to the order shield wall when the Fort lord spawned on the bottom floor with the champs in the middle of the second group. They had order behind them and a Fort lord in the middle that AoE’ed then started attacking. The second group rushed down, and dropped the lord. Many didn’t even know that the lord had spawned amongst them, and even if they did, it was them vs the lord and order, only other option was to die. The second group was also being pushed down by order in hopes to stop Destro from killing him. In the end, it was a victory, bittersweet as we should have had it earlier, on better terms.

Now the kicker is, on the Alliance forums, order players that I have seen attacking the fort lord on the bottom floor (see, it is a fairly common occurrence, even for keep lords), crying that Desto purposely exploited him. Jealousy that Desto was the first? Or that they could never do it? Dunno, but, but there was no exploiting involved.

Now that leaves the question, should Destro give it up, should the devs reset it, or should Destro halt on the next fortress assault? I feel the win was deserved. All’s fair in love and WAR!

Bilelord How to Vid.

My GM made a Vid on killing the bile lord. I do have to say, WAR dungeons are some of the best PvE I've had the pleasure to experience. They all seem to have nice gimmicks to them, like for instance, getting sick in bilerot burrow and (Still broken though) gathering trinkets in Blood Wrought to beat Barakus God Slayer.

One thing to remember when following this vid, at the time it was made, the Bilelord doesn't actually call any minions. This may ether be fixed or removed in the future, but if it goes back in, killing them will enrage the Bilelord, causing him to do more damage. The best part of the vid, me main tanking, second best, the Sorc on his first trip down there flips on the amount of damage the bosses hits for.

WAR, and a reinvented Tank

1st
WAR has reinvented the tanking class for PvP; yet, it would seem some people have and issue with how your suppose to play your tank. Playing as a Chosen, I have long held both a 2hander and sword and shield in my bags. I truly believe that there is a time and place for both. Tanks are viable with both. Currently with Sentinel/Annihilator armor, with wounds and toughness talismans, I’m not laying down a mass amount of damage. But the Dread tree makes it noticeable with the crit tactic on a 2hander.

Its time to start thinking outside the box. Many mmo’s have set the cookie cutter for the tank, and for the most part, have made them useless with anything other than the “ol’sword and board”. WAR has come along and broke the mold. Tanks are now actually usefull in PvP (RvR). Taunt works on players, guard is awesome (see third point), and we can actually do damage with a 2hander. Now, lets just hope that as time moves on, more players will break the mold.

2rd
Some actually think that tanks do too much damage…… Ok, they must have never played a tank, or have only played an Iron Breaker. Ok, I’ll say, it seems that the IB’s mechanic may be a little out of control. Chosen and the Swordmaster seem a little hight because they can actually do magic damage, and it would seem from my point of view that not to many people have good resists. But it is little higher on the Chosen cause we actually get an aura that reduces your resists. Before people cry nerf, try a tank (perferably, not an IB).

3rd
Guarding the healer. Now, tanks for the most part do guard someone. Now if the shaman or zealot is close enough to the tank (30ft) for guard to work, they might be a little close to the front lines for guard to save them. As for me and a few other tanks I know, we guard the WitchElf or the Disciple of Khaine. Healing a WE in open RvR is almost a lost cause, guard makes it easier, and most DoKs are on the front line with the tanks. So, to all the healers out there, if your not guarded, don’t take offense, we might just have someone else guarded (someone close enough to benefit from it) to help ease your healing load.

Lore taking another one for the team?

In the summer of 1989 I picked up the game Space Hulk. From that day I was hooked. GamesWorkshop has had some of the best stories and lore I have ever come across. I played table top WHFB and WH40K up until recently. It’s a game that has stuck with me, always keeping me wanting to know more about the fluff.

Imagine my surprise in 2006 when I learned about Mythic picking up the MMO rights. All I could think of was “How are they going to butcher the lore”. In the end they did all right. Of course female Dwarfs aren’t on the front lines, male Sorc’s (the few that exist) are in hiding, and contrary to popular belief there truly are female Chosen.

I can understand that the Sorc’s were kind of an accident. Really no excuse for the dwarfs, except the fear of having an entire race on Order gender restricted. Now I’m excited to hear the return of the Choppa, but worried that lore may “take anther one for team” on the Slayer.

Frankly, I have nothing against female players or characters. Heck, my wife plays WAR as a Witch Elf and Blackguard. But by lore, there are no female slayers. Dwarfs are a dieing race (whether though lack of offspring or Greenskin caused accidents), and would never allow a female of the race to wantonly take the slayer oath and seek death. Dwarf woman are the ones that pass down the lineage. No respectable dwarf would allow a woman of the clan to take the slayer oath, and if the crime was that bad, another male dwarf, most likely one of her sons would take the oath in her stead.

Please Mythic, don’t allow the lore to take any more hits than it has to.

EDIT: Recent Vids have Devs stating that there will not be female slayers, or as other call them, Slaydies).
Current WarHammer Alliance discussion topic on it.
